I spent last weekend at Oppikoppi – a music festival on a dry, dusty and thorny koppie in the heart of the Bushveld North of Jo’burg. As we motored there, chewing our biltong, dodging potholes and semi-naked youth trying to hitch their way to the festival from a town called Brits, we heard a radio DJ describe it as the Glastonbury of South Africa.
The theme was sexy, crooked, teeth (I’d like to think we scored 2 out of 3) and included a line up of Afrikaans artists I’d never heard of and would have fun trying to pronounce their names and decide if they were kif or kak.
Here are some photos for you to decide if my first SA festival experience was kif (good) or kak (bad).

Very cool! Looks like you’re having loads of fun. Are you passing by London in Sept?
